Loosha is almost 2 1/2 years old and is still eating all the foods! I say this knowing that toddlers are fickle beasts and can flip on a dime. So just let me enjoy this enthusiastic eater while I can, for the love of god.

While I am obviously unqualified to be tackling this subject generally speaking, there are hoards of people who are (for example). Including my friend Amelia Taylor who was kind enough to jump on a call with me to talk food.

Amelia is a speech pathologist specializing in feeding and early intervention from birth to age 3. I babbled about some things I pretended to know something about and she was kind enough to talk to me and validate my feelings a parent. In her words, “There is always a reason that a kid is picky or selective, it’s figuring out the why. That’s my job.”

(I really want to preface this whole newsletter topic by acknowledging how much privilege and access to resources can play a role in the parenting process itself and in this subject in particular. The copious amount of time I was able to spend at mealtimes with Loosha was a luxury of sorts and allowed me space to observe her habits, to offer early exposure to a variety foods groups, and to deal with the very real clean up involved.)

What follows is a little conversation I had with Amelia about this topic AND a ZFP printable shopping list for your little one to take with them to the store! More on that later. Here’s the chat abbreviated for newsletter purposes.
