Things I Ate and Cooked This Week

zoefoodparty.substack.com
Dal, but not the dal i made this week because i literally didn’t photograph a single thing

Udi threw his back out nearly 2 weeks ago. An injury I wouldn’t wish upon any of you. While he recovered and rested Loosha and I both got sick. Not Covid sick, not scary sick, just regular ordinary annoying sick. The kind where your kid obviously can’t go to childcare so you have to muster the strength to play puzzles on the floor while you take mini naps with your eyes open so they can’t tell you are actually asleep.

Then I got pink eye. And then I got my period. Loosha was grouchy and I was short tempered and we both were covered in goo.

So here goes a list of what I cooked, ordered, and ate this week while merely trying to get by:

  • Chicken Pho from Pho Banh Mi Che Cali with extra flat rice noodles (trust me, that’s the order)

  • Toast with peanut butter. And before you even ask, give me crunchy or give me death

  • Toast with peanut butter and jam

  • Toast with butter and za’atar

  • Granola without milk because we ran out, for fucks sake!

  • Granola with milk, because I did Instacart!

  • A Rotisserie chicken from Vallarta Supermarket (highly recommend picking one up if you eat that sort of thing) turned into the following:

    • Chicken tacos with canned white beans cooked down with lots of olive oil and rosemary, and crispy purple potatoes with chipotle mayo.

    • Curried chicken salad wraps (shredded chicken, mayo, curry powder, raisins, slivered almonds, diced apple, s+p). Lettuce, tomato and whatever else we had.

    • Chicken soup (using the bones first, meat at the end) with loads of carrots and “noo-noos” (noodles, duh).

  • The best hot dogs ever from Harvest Gathering Farm and some simple boiled potatoes tossed with lemon, olive oil, and defrosted peas

  • Kabocha squash soup with purple rice and herb oil (purple rice being a combination of black rice and white rice cooked in a rice cooker. do you have a rice cooker? if not, we need to talk…)

  • Dal with the rest of the kabocha squash and herb oil

  • Breakfast tacos with scrambled eggs, canned corn salad, and purple rice leftovers

  • Breakfast salad with arugula, sunny side up eggs, leftover corn salad, avocado

  • A handful of raisins in one hands, a handful of walnuts in the other, into the mouf at the same time.

  • Ice pops x 1,000,000
