*From Loosha's Fridge, with Love*
I promise to never be that asshole pretending I know how to solve food dilemmas in kids just because I have one, plus a bonus video for broccoli she loves
Let’s be frank, the topic of kids and food can be very sensitive for parents out there. I’ve touched on it before like when I interviewed my friend and speech pathologist Amelia Taylor , and here when I rattled off what was working for us at the time . But as promised above I will never be '“that asshole.”
Instead, From Loosha’s Fridge, with Love is a new series dedicated to the more kid-specific content I am excited to share with you all. This section will reflect my latest approaches to cooking for and with Loosha. You can expect all of her favorite recipes, as well as the what/why I cook the way I do. So much of my cooking habits have changed now that Loosha is bigger and more opinionated and I want you to hear it straight from her.
Think of it as a space where I hone in on my years of professional cooking experience and recipe development (which is really just an experiment in human psychology anyway) but in the context of kids. Coupled with all that Loosha has taught me so far in our culinary journey together. All of this in hopes that something we do in our home resonates enough to be worth trying in your home, with your kid.
Let’s begin with one of our household bangers, shall we?! This can’t even be construed as a recipe. It’s merely a way of cooking a variety of different green vegetables using the same method and getting slightly different but similar results that my daughter loves. It’s basically a way of blanching and sautéing in the same pan in a fraction of the time than it would take to boil water.
If I might toot my own horn here, several of her friends who previously claimed not to eat certain vegetables at their own house have been known to chow down on it when I make it this way at ours. Loosha’s favorite version to date is when I make it with broccoli, but in the past she has scarfed kale, snap peas, green beans, asparagus, etc. Cooking times can be adjusted slightly according to the size of each vegetable but all versions fall in the under 5 minute category.
